In the past decade, Rodanthe is most famously known as the romantic backdrop for Nicholas Spark's novel, turned film, Nights in Rodanthe. Long before the book hit stores, the village was well known for another type of story. Word of the heroic rescues at the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station spread throughout the coast. Today, Rodanthe's pristine beaches, waterfront scenery, wildlife and water sport opportunities attract visitors from all over the world. The real estate in this area is blend between amenity filled, oceanfront homes to humble soundside cottages. 

History of Rodanthe, NC

Formerly called Chicamacomico, Rodanthe was renamed by the US Post Office in 1874. One of the area's most recognizable attractions is the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station that is still open for guests to tour and learn more about the brave crew members that protected its shores. The station was the first to open on the North Carolina coast and proved to be a necessary service, eventually leading to beginning of the United States Coast Guard. Today, the area is a hub for kiteboarding enthusiasts. Competitions are held throughout the year on the Pamlico Sound.
