Once you travel over the Wright Memorial Bridge, the first Outer Banks town to greet you is Southern Shores. This intimate community is only 4 square miles and is known for its beautiful oak trees and inviting oceanside and soundside neighborhoods. History of Southern Shores, NC
Southern Shores was originally lumped in with the town of Kitty Hawk. The town began to separate itself from Kitty Hawk when it was founded as a resort destination in 1946. Decades later, the town was officially incorporated in 1979.
